The “TRT Australia” Comprehensive Panel

Standard blood tests miss the full picture. We have designed this specific panel to provide the exact data required for a specialist medical assessment.

🚫 The Problem with GP Tests

Medicare guidelines often restrict GPs to testing only “Total Testosterone” unless specific disease criteria are met. This misses “Free Testosterone” (the active hormone) and Estrogen, often leading to a “normal” diagnosis even when symptoms are severe.

βœ… The Detailed Solution

Our custom panel measures the entire hormonal cascade. We look at production signals (LH/FSH), transport proteins (SHBG), conversion hormones (E2), and safety markers (PSA/Lipids/LFTs) to give a 360-degree view of your health.

⚑ Speed & Privacy

Skip the initial doctors appointment. Order the referral form online instantly. Visit the pathology centre when it suits you. Results are emailed privately to you in PDF format, usually within 24-48 hours of collection.

Exactly What We Test & Why

Understanding the biomarkers that determine your eligibility for treatment.

Testosterone & Free T
The Core Markers

We test Total Testosterone (overall production) and Calculated Free Testosterone. Free T is the most critical numberβ€”it represents the unbound hormone actually available for your body to use.

SHBG
Sex Hormone Binding Globulin

SHBG is the “bus” that transports testosterone. High SHBG can “lock up” your testosterone, causing low T symptoms even if your total levels look normal. This is a vital calculation marker.

Oestradiol (E2)
Estrogen Levels

Men need estrogen for brain and bone health, but too much causes mood swings and gyno, while too little causes joint pain. We establish your baseline ratio before starting therapy.

LH & FSH
Pituitary Signals

Luteinizing Hormone and Follicle Stimulating Hormone tell us why your T is low. Is it the testicles failing (Primary Hypogonadism) or the brain not sending the signal (Secondary)?

Prolactin
Pituitary Health

Elevated Prolactin can kill libido and lower testosterone. Extremely high levels may indicate a benign pituitary tumor (prolactinoma), which requires a different treatment path.

PSA
Prostate Safety

Prostate Specific Antigen. We must ensure your prostate health is stable before introducing exogenous testosterone. Essential for men over 40.

Lipids & Glucose
Metabolic Health

Full Cholesterol panel (HDL/LDL/Trigs) and Glucose. Low T often correlates with metabolic syndrome. We monitor these to ensure TRT improves your overall health profile.

FBC / LFT / U&E
Organ Function

Full Blood Count (Red blood cells/Haematocrit), Liver Function Tests, and Kidney function. High haematocrit is a side effect risk, so we need a baseline.

⚠️ Critical Testing Protocols

To ensure your results are accurate and accepted by our doctors, you must follow these rules.

1. The “Morning Window”

Testosterone levels naturally peak in the morning and drop significantly in the afternoon. Bloods must be drawn between 7am and 10am. Results from afternoon blood draws are often rejected as they show falsely low levels.

2. Fasting Required

Fast for 8-12 hours prior to the test. This ensures your Glucose and Lipid measurements are accurate. You can and should drink water to stay hydrated, which makes the blood draw easier.

3. Avoid Biotin

If you take Biotin supplements (often in hair/nail formulas or multivitamins), stop 72 hours before testing. Biotin interferes with the assay used to measure hormones and can produce false error readings.

Pathology Frequently Asked Questions

Where can I go to get the blood draw?

Once you order, you will receive a form that is accepted at thousands of collection centres nationwide. This utilizes major pathology networks (such as Healius/SDS/Laverty/QML or Sonic depending on your state).
You simply find your nearest collection centre, walk in with your printed form, and they will perform the draw.

Do I need to see my regular doctor first?

No. The referral is generated by iMedical’s internal medical team. This allows you to get the data before you book a consultation, saving you the time and expense of a GP visit just to ask for a blood test.

Can I claim this on Medicare?

No. This is a private “patient-requested” pathology service. Because you are self-referring to bypass the restrictions of the Medicare Benefits Schedule (which limits what GPs can order), this cost is out-of-pocket. However, it guarantees you get the comprehensive testing required without gatekeeping.

What if my results are normal?

If your results are within range, you have valuable peace of mind and a baseline for future health. If you still have symptoms, our doctors can look at the “optimisation” side of the results (e.g., levels that are technically “normal” but suboptimal for your age) or suggest other avenues of investigation.

I already have blood results, can I use them?

If your bloods are less than 3 months old and include Total Testosterone, Free Testosterone (Calculated), SHBG, FSH, LH, and Oestradiol, yes. However, most GP bloods miss 50% of these markers. If your previous bloods are incomplete, the doctor will likely require this panel to be completed anyway to prescribe safely.
